The June 9 Walk For Change events present us with a wonderful opportunity. Not only can we introduce more people to Barack Obama, but we also have the opportunity to get more people involved in the campaign. In this regard, we have a great organizing tool available to us.
What Barack Obama is all about is changing the way in which politics in this country is conducted. As he’s told us many times, if we want to see these changes happen, we’ll have to take personal responsibility ourselves to ensure that these changes are made.
Barack Obama has repeatedly told us that, while he’s ready to lead, we must still take action ourselves in order to ensure that the necessary changes are made in this nation. Through such a bottom–up style of politics, we will more readily be able to hold our elected representatives accountable, and ensure a political system that takes care of all of our nation’s citizens.
The reason that many of us are involved in this campaign is that we see an opportunity to change our great nation for the better. We are all taking personal responsibility to move this process of change forward.
As canvassers, we’re not out there simply to collect money. What we’re out there to do is to begin changing the face of politics in this country with the election of Barack Obama being a means towards that end.
Since our goals as canvassers are much greater than they are for the normal canvasser, so must our techniques and methodology be more substantive. While the techniques and methodologies presented here might make canvassing sound like an in–depth chore, it is actually pretty simple. Each canvassing encounter is nothing more than a 3–5 minutes dialog in which we share our support for Barack Obama’s candidacy and encourage others to join with us in moving our nation forward.
